Xiaomi 17 Ultra: Leak of a monstrous 200-megapixel camera module with continuous optical zoom
Following the anticipated launch of the Xiaomi 17, as well as the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max in China, the brand is already preparing to unveil its most ambitious model: the Xiaomi 17 Ultra.
Marketed as a true professional-grade smartphone camera, this device promises to push the boundaries of mobile photography with an all-new advanced imaging system.
Xiaomi 17 Ultra: An Exceptional Quad-Camera System
According to renowned Chinese informant Digital Chat Station, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will feature an impressive quad-camera module:
- 50 megapixels (main sensor) — a large sensor offering extended dynamic range for more natural contrasts;
- 50 megapixels (ultra-wide) — for capturing landscapes and wide scenes with precision;
- 50 megapixels (standard telephoto) — for portraits and close-up shots;
- 200 megapixels (periscope telephoto) — the heart of the system, equipped with new optical technology.

The latter 200-megapixel sensor is expected to be paired with continuous optical zoom, a rare innovation in the smartphone world that allows for seamless zooming without switching between sensors.
A Zoom Technology Inspired by Professional Equipment
According to Digital Chat Station, Xiaomi would use a CMOS sensor shared between multiple focal lengths, ensuring smooth transitions between different zoom levels. The system would also be supported by several proprietary technologies developed in-house, indicating that the brand is investing in research and development to stand out from its competitors.
The anticipated result? Consistent image quality across all focal lengths, from wide-angle to extreme zoom, while maintaining sharpness and color consistency.
Expected Sensors for the Xiaomi 17 Ultra
Rumors suggest that the smartphone will include:
- Main sensor: OmniVision OV50X (50 megapixels)
- Ultra-wide: Samsung JN5 (50 megapixels)
- Telephoto: Samsung JN5 (50 megapixels)
- Periscope telephoto: Samsung HPE (200 megapixels)
- Front camera: OmniVision OV50M (50 megapixels)
This module promises a versatile photographic experience with unmatched performance, especially in low-light conditions.
Two Versions, Same Photographic Power
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to be available in two variants, but without differences in sensors or optics. The “high-end” version may, however, offer exclusive photographic features, such as advanced capture modes or enhanced image processing powered by artificial intelligence.
Launch Sooner Than Expected?
While early reports suggested a release in the first half of 2026, new leaks now indicate a presentation as early as late 2025 in China. If confirmed, Xiaomi would once again outpace its direct competitors, such as Samsung and OPPO, by launching its new flagship before the 2026 flagship season.
