From now on, Microsoft is tightening its grip and requires the use of an account to install Windows 11. Even worse, the latest test version blocks all methods that allow users to bypass this requirement. Windows 11 has only recently overtaken Windows 10, but this success is no coincidence.
This is due to the fact that Microsoft is phasing out its previous operating system, leaving 400 million PCs vulnerable to cybersecurity threats. As a result, many users are transitioning to Windows 11. However, installing it now requires a Microsoft account.
Windows 11 blocks methods to bypass the Microsoft account requirement
This requirement frustrates many users. The latest test version goes even further, as all workarounds have been disabled. In addition to needing a Microsoft account, users must also have an internet connection.
The company justifies this decision in its release notes. But why does Microsoft prohibit this installation method without an account for Windows 11, whose version 25H2 is now available? The Redmond company speaks of risks associated with popular tools, explaining that “these tricks bypass critical configuration screens, which could lead users to finish the installation with a machine that has not been fully configured.”
In simple terms, the settings must be correct for every PC. This new policy from Microsoft blocks tricks that were known among users of Windows 11 Pro and Family. To recall, in 2025, the company already removed the bypassnro method. The command start ms-cxh2.localonly is also ineffective. Using it will simply reset the configuration process without bypassing the login screen.
As mentioned earlier, users appreciate these methods for various reasons. For instance, they want to customize the name of their user folder, as Windows 11 automatically names it based on the Microsoft account email address. For those who are disappointed, the Redmond company offers a consolation prize with a new option accessible via command to rename the folder during installation.
One can only hope this feature will be natively available in the setup without needing a command, which some users may not be familiar with.
