25H2 is the next major update for Windows 11. In fact, this version is available in the Release Preview channel for Insiders, and we now have more information about when this anticipated update will be available to everyone.
Windows 11 continues to evolve, and recently its popularity has surpassed that of Windows 10, marking a first after four years. Microsoft remains committed to ongoing updates, with the next one being 25H2. However, don’t expect significant new features. This update will be much more modest than 24H2.
Possible Release Date for Windows 11 Version 25H2
Though Windows 11 25H2 is now available, it is not accessible to everyone. The final version is expected to be released in September or October if Microsoft adheres to its schedule. However, although the company indicated that ISO images would be released this week, that is no longer the case. Microsoft has delayed their posting on its site, stating: “The ISO for Windows 11 version 25H2 has been delayed and will be available soon.”
Microsoft also confirms that 25H2 will not be as significant of an update as 24H2 was. Instead, it will resemble the transition from 22H2 to 23H2. Activating this update requires a minor component called eKB (Enablement Package).
Microsoft explains that Windows 11 25H2 and 24H2 share the same system core and files. Consequently, new features from 25H2 will be included in a monthly update for 24H2, which will then be activated later through eKB. This serves as a switch to enable 25H2 upon starting the PC.
There are some nice new features awaiting Windows 11 25H2 users, such as the ability to uninstall pre-installed Microsoft Store applications. Additionally, some outdated functionalities, like PowerShell 2.0, will be removed. So, there are just a few weeks left to wait until this update is officially available. Patience!
