Windows 11 users are all too aware: major updates often come with bugs, and unfortunately, version 25H2 is no exception, experiencing issues right from the start. Specifically, two bugs hinder the user experience.
As Windows 11 25H2 begins its rollout following the release of the ISO file, initial problems are making an appearance. This is a well-known pattern for Microsoft, and it comes as no surprise. If major updates are prone to bugs, the same applies to minor updates.
Two Bugs Affect Windows 11 25H2 from Its First Days
The first bug impacting Windows 11 25H2 involves DVDs, Blu-rays, and digital television failing to read protected content. Applications that rely on a protected video chain (HDCP) or audio DRM encounter copyright protection errors, leading to interruptions, freezes, or black screens. Fortunately, streaming platforms seem to be unaffected by this frustrating issue.
As of now, Microsoft has not offered a solution and is asking affected users to wait for a corrective update. Thus, those impacted find themselves without an immediate fix and must bide their time. Others hope that the community will come up with a patch independently.
The second bug affecting Windows 11 25H2 is a bit more technical. It strikes installations done via WUSA from a shared folder. Installations using Windows Update Standalone fail with an error message ERROR_BAD_PATHNAME when carried out from a network share containing multiple .msu files. The bug does not occur when there is only one .msu file in the network share or when the files are stored locally on the PC.
After installing an .msu file (via double-click or WUSA) and a restart, the update history in Settings may sometimes still indicate that a reboot is required. Fortunately, this issue resolves itself automatically. Microsoft offers a logical temporary workaround: execute the .msu files locally to avoid the problem.
In summary, the launch of Windows 11 25H2 is not going smoothly, which is unlikely to improve Microsoft’s reputation, already criticized with the upcoming abandonment of Windows 10, which appears to be an ecological disaster.
