Vivaldi 7.7 adds 100% personalized search on Android

Vivaldi 7.7 introduces 100% personalized search on Android

Vivaldi is one of those alternative browsers that deserves more attention. While I use Chrome daily, if I were to switch to another browser, it would undoubtedly be Vivaldi.

This new update only solidifies that belief: Vivaldi 7.7 on Android adds two features that Chrome, Firefox, and even Brave still do not offer properly.

100% Personalized Search: A True Revolution

Until now, Vivaldi on mobile was limited to a handful of predefined search engines — Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia… the usuals. With Vivaldi 7.7, that’s changed: the browser now allows you to add any search engine with just a simple step.

How does it work?

  1. Open a website with a search field (like a wiki, library catalog, database, or corporate intranet).
  2. Long-press on the website’s search bar.
  3. Select “Add as a search engine.”

And just like that, the site becomes a secondary search engine… or even your default one.

This means you can now perform a Wikipedia search directly from the address bar, query a scientific database without visiting the homepage, explore a private wiki, or use a self-hosted alternative search engine.

In short, this is a massive productivity boost, especially for advanced users.

Import & Export of Bookmarks: True Freedom on Mobile

The second major enhancement is the independent management of bookmarks. Until now, importing bookmarks required access to the desktop version of the browser. Now, you can directly import bookmarks from Chrome, Firefox, or any other browser from your phone, and you can export your bookmarks locally for backup or migration.

This flexibility is uncommon on Android, where most browsers confine their data within cloud synchronization. With Vivaldi 7.7, your browser truly belongs to you.

What About iPhone?

The Vivaldi 7.7 update is also coming to iOS, but in a greatly reduced version: primarily bug fixes and optimizations.
None of the major new features are available due to limitations imposed by iOS and WebKit.

Vivaldi 7.7 is currently rolling out on Android. If you’re looking for a powerful browser that respects your freedom and is productivity-oriented, now is definitely the time to take a look.
