The Huawei Mate 70 Air is official: an ultra-slim smartphone with a 6,500 mAh battery
Huawei has unveiled today in China its new Mate 70 Air smartphone, an ultra-slim model designed to compete directly with the iPhone Air. Preorders are open in China, and it is set to be on sale in the coming weeks.
With a thickness of just 6.6 mm, the Mate 70 Air does not quite match the slimness of the iPhone Air (5.6 mm), but it compensates significantly with a superior battery life and a more comprehensive camera setup.

The device features a 7-inch OLED 1.5K+ display (2,760 × 1,320 px) with an 18.8:9 aspect ratio and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. On the front, a 10.7-megapixel selfie camera is housed in a central punch hole, providing a nearly borderless viewing experience.
Huawei Mate 70 Air: Two Kirin Processors to Choose From Depending on Configuration
Under the hood, Huawei relies on its own chips:
- Kirin 9020B for the 12 GB RAM models,
- Kirin 9020A for the 16 GB RAM versions.
It runs on HarmonyOS 5.1, Huawei’s proprietary ecosystem.

The Mate 70 Air has a massive 6,500 mAh battery, a remarkable feat given its slim profile. It supports 66 W fast charging (USB 2.0). In terms of connectivity, the smartphone offers: Wi-Fi 7+, two-way Beidou satellite messaging, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and an IP68/IP69 certification for water and dust resistance—an unusual feature for such a slim device.
A Versatile Camera Setup with Four Sensors

Huawei places a strong emphasis on photography, featuring a quad rear camera module:
- 50 megapixels (main sensor 1/1.3”, ultra-wide),
- 8 megapixels ultra-wide,
- 12 megapixels telephoto RYYB 3x,
- 1.5 megapixels multispectral Red Maple sensor for more accurate color rendering.
This combination allows for exceptional photographic versatility, from sharp portraits to detailed landscapes, even in low light.
The Huawei Mate 70 Air will be available in three elegant colors: Obsidian Black, Feather White, and Silver Brocade.
Price and Availability
The Mate 70 Air hits the market with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage priced at ¥4,199, approximately 512 euros. Other models are also offered, including one with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage priced at ¥5,199 (~ 633 euros).
The Huawei Mate 70 Air combines ultra-slim design, impressive endurance, high-end photography, and cutting-edge connectivity. With its aggressive price-to-performance ratio, it stands out as one of the most appealing smartphones on the Chinese market—and it could pose a threat to the iPhone Air upon its international release.
