Samsung says no to the Galaxy S26 Pro: 2026 will stick to the classic models Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra
The whirlwind of rumors surrounding the Galaxy S26 is shaping up to be quite a roller coaster. After months of speculation about a potential name change for the base model, it appears that Samsung will adhere to its usual formula.
No Galaxy S26 Pro Planned
According to a new report from SamMobile, Samsung will not be launching a Galaxy S26 Pro. The Korean manufacturer will therefore maintain its traditional naming with three models:
- Galaxy S26,
- Galaxy S26+,
- and Galaxy S26 Ultra.
This decision comes shortly after another leak revealed that the Galaxy S26 Edge has been canceled due to disappointing sales of the Galaxy S25 Edge, which was deemed too thin and lacking differentiation. Samsung is now focusing its efforts on the S26+ to strengthen the core of its premium lineup.
The Galaxy S26: An Evolution, Not a Revolution
Current information suggests that a name change is not warranted. The Galaxy S26 will retain a 6.2-inch full HD+ display, a triple camera setup identical to that of the Galaxy S25, and will feature the new Exynos 2600 processor in multiple markets (including Europe).
The only notable change will likely be a slightly larger battery, estimated at 4,300 mAh, compared to 4,000 mAh in its predecessor.
In short, the differences are too minimal to justify a “Pro” designation.
A Strategy That Remains Consistent
Apple and Xiaomi have adopted distinctly different lineup strategies:
- Apple reserves the “Pro” suffix for its most advanced models (iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max).
- Xiaomi employs the same approach with its Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Pro.
However, Samsung seems to position the base Galaxy S26 to compete mainly with the standard iPhone 17, rather than the Pro versions from its competitors.
Name or Not, the Essence Remains the Same
Ultimately, the name is of little consequence: Samsung appears intent on avoiding unnecessary confusion within its premium range. A name change without a significant technological breakthrough could confuse consumers and tarnish the brand’s image.
Unless there are last-minute surprises, the Galaxy S26 family will remain true to its historical trio, with a launch expected in early 2026.
