Oura Reimagines Its App and Prepares an FDA-Approved Blood Pressure Monitoring Feature
The Finnish specialist in smart rings, Oura has announced a major overhaul of its mobile application, placing a greater emphasis on stress management and the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
At the same time, the brand is working on an early detection feature for hypertension, which is currently under study with the U.S. health authority (FDA).
Oura: An App Reimagined for Holistic Health
The new Oura app, set to be rolled out in the coming weeks on iOS and Android, features a more personalized interface organized into three main tabs:
- Today: essential daily information to help users adjust their health and wellness decisions;
- Vital Signs: an overview of key indicators such as sleep, heart rate, stress, and body temperature;
- My Health: a long-term view of user health, including new sections on Habits and Routines, showcasing the tangible impact of daily behaviors.
The app will also enhance its menstrual cycle insights, now displayed over a 12-month period instead of just one month, allowing for better anticipation of cycles and fertility windows.
Cumulative Stress: Understanding How the Body Handles Stress
The standout new feature, dubbed Cumulative Stress, provides a weekly index of how the body accumulates and recovers from chronic stress.
This score is calculated based on five physiological factors:
- sleep continuity,
- cardiac response to stress,
- nighttime micro-movements,
- thermal regulation,
- and the overall impact of physical activity.

Goal for 2026: Hypertension Detection
Oura has also confirmed the launch of a clinical study supervised by the FDA to develop a feature capable of identifying early signs of hypertension.
The study, approved by an independent ethics committee (IRB), will be conducted through Oura Labs, the brand’s experimental lab in the United States. Participants will have their likelihood of hypertension assessed using a combination of data:
- Oura Ring measurements (heart rate, variability, temperature, etc.),
- and a brief questionnaire regarding family history, treatment, and lifestyle habits.
Users showing concerning signals will be advised to consult a healthcare professional, while the algorithm will track changes over time.
A Record Fundraising Round and New Products
This announcement comes shortly after a $900 million fundraising round led by Fidelity Management & Research Company, with participation from ICONIQ, Whale Rock, and Atreides. Oura also unveiled its Oura Ring 4 Ceramic Collection, its first charging case, and a Health Panels feature allowing users to schedule blood tests directly from the app.
Toward Predictive and Personalized Health
With this overhaul and upcoming medical features, Oura is positioning itself as one of the most ambitious players in connected health. The objective is clear: to transform the ring into a true preventive instrument capable of anticipating cardiovascular issues before they become apparent.
The Finnish company appears to be moving beyond mere sleep or stress tracking to enter the realm of assisted diagnostics, straddling the line between wellness and preventive medicine.
