OpenAI teases a new product at 7 PM — likely its own AI-enhanced web browser

OpenAI has just released a mysterious teaser on X, announcing a livestream scheduled for today at 7 PM (Paris time). The image features a series of browser tabs, clearly suggesting that the announcement will pertain to the company’s in-house web browser — a rumor that has been circulating for several months.

OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, confirmed on X that it is a “new product I am looking forward to.”

OpenAI: An Intelligent Browser with an Integrated Agent

According to previous rumors, OpenAI has been preparing since July a web browser featuring its AI agent Operator, capable of performing actions on behalf of the user: booking a restaurant, auto-filling forms, or navigating and conducting complex searches without manual intervention.

The browser is also expected to integrate the ChatGPT interface natively, allowing users to interact with the AI without visiting the ChatGPT website.

Technically, it will be based on Chromium, the open-source engine behind Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Opera.

The “AI Browser Wars” Begin

The launch of OpenAI’s browser comes as the competition in intelligent browsers intensifies:

  • Google is pushing Gemini in Chrome,
  • Perplexity is developing its AI browser Comet,
  • The Browser Company, creator of Arc, has been acquired by Atlassian for $610 million,
  • and Microsoft is gradually integrating Copilot Mode into Edge.

Ironically, Microsoft, a strategic partner of OpenAI, has stated that it does not intend to create a dedicated AI browser. Its AI division head, Mustafa Suleyman, recently explained that Microsoft’s strategy is to evolve Edge into an “agentic browser” capable of acting for the user without starting from scratch.

OpenAI’s Livestream Will Be Broadcast Today at 7 PM

If this is indeed the launch of the OpenAI browser, the company could redefine how we interact with the web — transforming browsing into a seamless, AI-driven experience.
