OnePlus 15: An OLED 165 Hz Screen Co-Developed with BOE, The Most Advanced in The World
The OnePlus 15 is poised to be one of the most ambitious smartphones of the year. With its official launch in China set for the end of the month, the brand is already revealing key details about its next-generation display.
According to Li Jie Louis, President of OnePlus China, the upcoming flagship will introduce the third generation of Oriental screen technology, co-developed with the Chinese giant, BOE — and it could redefine market standards.
An “Oriental Screen 3.0” at 165 Hz: A World First
Born from a strategic partnership between OnePlus and BOE, this new display — dubbed the “Third-Generation Oriental Screen” — is claimed to be “the most advanced smartphone display in the world,” according to the executive.
The OnePlus 15 will be the first smartphone to feature a 6.78-inch BOE X3 OLED display with a 1.5K resolution, a refresh rate of 165 Hz, and a minimum brightness level of 1 nit for optimal nighttime usage without eye strain.
This unprecedented combination in the Android realm heralds what OnePlus now calls the “era of ultra-refresh 165 Hz.”
Record-Breaking Performance on All Fronts
According to information shared ahead of BOE’s event in Shenzhen on October 14, this display will set 9 world records and introduce 8 major technological innovations.
OnePlus highlights four key areas where the OnePlus 15’s display will establish new benchmarks:
- Smoothness — facilitated by the 165 Hz refresh rate and intelligent adaptive management.
- Display quality — featuring enhanced color fidelity and controlled brightness.
- Low-light experience — to ensure optimal visual comfort even in complete darkness.
- Eye protection — backed by TÜV Rheinland’s Smart Eye Protection 5.0 Gold certification, the highest currently available.
“This display represents the new global standard for premium smartphones,” stated Li Jie Louis on Weibo, confirming that this collaboration signifies a turning point for Android screens.
OnePlus and BOE: A Lasting Technological Alliance
Since launching the OnePlus 7 Pro in 2019, the manufacturer has played a pioneering role in popularizing high-refresh-rate displays, advancing from 90 Hz to 120 Hz, and now to the Oriental Display series. With the OnePlus 15, the brand is taking another leap forward, solidifying its reputation for display quality in the Android ecosystem.
BOE, on its end, reaffirms its status as a global leader in flexible OLED production, now competing with Samsung Display in the premium segment.
Towards a New Era for Android Flagships
By leveraging this innovative technology, OnePlus aims to prioritize visual quality and smoothness at the core of the user experience. The display of the OnePlus 15 could become a major selling point against competitors, including the Samsung Galaxy S26, Xiaomi 17, and OPPO Find X9 Pro, which are expected to launch around the same time.
If the promises are fulfilled, the OnePlus 15 could be the first Android smartphone to surpass Samsung in the area it has excelled at for a decade: displays.
