NotebookLM is finally the tool Google wanted: context window increased by 8 times
Google has launched a major update to NotebookLM, addressing its two biggest limitations: a lack of contextual memory and a loss of continuity during long conversations.
NotebookLM: An 8x Larger Context Window
NotebookLM now leverages the full contextual window of one million tokens from the Gemini model, which is 8 times larger than before.
In practical terms, the AI can now analyze vast sets of documents without losing track. Articles, reports, transcripts—everything can be processed simultaneously, resulting in a much broader and more precise understanding.
No more truncated prompts or incomplete responses: NotebookLM now retains the entire context in memory.
A 6x Longer Conversational Memory

The conversational memory capability has also been increased by 6 times, allowing for much longer and coherent discussions.
Users can exchange dozens of messages without needing to restate the topic each time.
Even better: the conversation history is now saved automatically. You can close your Notebook and resume later without losing anything—while retaining the option to delete your history at any time.
Customizable Roles and Voices

NotebookLM is also more customizable: you can set the role, goals, and tone of your assistant. It can act as a strict teacher, a creative storyteller, or a meticulous analyst, depending on your needs.
Why It’s a Revolution
Until now, NotebookLM has shown promise but was limited. With these improvements—extended memory, enriched context, and customization—it finally becomes the AI tool Google envisioned: a true intelligent and reliable research partner.
These new features are being rolled out globally this week.
