Iphone pocket: ready to spend 150€ on a dangling yellow sock

Apple has just launched an unexpected accessory: the iPhone Pocket. This quirky mini-bag priced at €150 promises to carry your phone with style and wit.

The iPhone Pocket resembles a sock. More specifically, it’s a knitted case styled like a designer bag, crafted by the Japanese brand Issey Miyake—famous for dressing Steve Jobs in his iconic black turtlenecks.

This accessory looks like something straight off a runway rather than from a tech store. It’s colorful, flexible, chic—and notably overpriced for what it is. At this price, one might expect it to charge the iPhone instead.

The iPhone Pocket comes in a short version for $149, and a long version for $229. The short one is designed to be held in hand, while the longer version can be slung over your shoulder like a handbag. Available colors include lemon, tangerine, peacock, pink, sapphire, cinnamon, or classic black for the more conservative.

Despite its minimalist knitted appearance, the iPhone Pocket has a surprising design. Its 3D stretchy mesh is made to allow your iPhone’s screen to show through without needing to take it out. You can read notifications through the fabric.

The accessory has enough space for multiple iPhones, but it isn’t rigid enough to hold anything else. So, don’t expect to fit your keys or wallet without the risk of everything falling out.

If you’re interested in this item, I fear I might disappoint you. Apple has planned for a selective distribution. The iPhone Pocket is sold exclusively in the United States and the United Kingdom, available online or in just one store per country.

If you’re in New York, head to Apple SoHo. If you’re in London, make your way to Regent Street. For everyone else, you’ll have to settle for the pictures online. Neither France, Japan, nor China are part of the lucky few.

Apple has not disclosed how many units will be produced. Is it a limited edition or merely a test? It’s unclear. What is certain is that fashion enthusiasts of the Apple brand are likely to rush in as of November 14.
