Instagram rolls out viewing history for Reels

Good news for Instagram enthusiasts: you can now find all the Reels you’ve already watched.

The platform has announced a new feature called “Viewing History,” which allows users to easily check out the videos they have previously viewed — a long-awaited option for many.

Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, confirmed this new feature, stating it works similarly to YouTube or TikTok: you can browse your recently viewed Reels in a neatly organized grid, with options to sort by date, creator, or chronological order.

How To Access Your Reels Viewing History?

To check your viewed Reels:

  1. Go to your Instagram profile.
  2. Tap the ≡ menu in the top right corner.
  3. Open the Your Activity section, then scroll down to Viewing History.

Previously, users had to find workarounds — such as checking liked posts or downloading their entire Instagram data — to locate a Reel they had already watched. This new method is much quicker and more intuitive.

Instagram Focuses on Reels

Reels have become the heart of the app, and Instagram continues to enhance the experience to compete with TikTok. With personalized preferences, increased visibility of Reels in the interface, and now this viewing history feature, Meta is clearly aiming to keep users engaged in the Reels ecosystem for as long as possible.
