HyperOS 3: How to install the beta to access the update before others

Do you want to test HyperOS 3 before anyone else as an official beta tester? It’s possible, as Xiaomi has opened up its testing program. Here’s what you need to do to access this major update.

HyperOS 3 is highly anticipated and will launch simultaneously with the Xiaomi 16, which is ultimately named Xiaomi 17. For several weeks now, beta testers have had access to this update, but only in China. Thankfully, the manufacturer has decided to extend this opportunity to the entire world.

How to install HyperOS 3 on my Xiaomi smartphone?

The goal is to allow the general public to try HyperOS 3, as well as to participate in enhancing the update by sharing their experience. This is great news as everyone is starting to roll out their major updates, whether it’s Apple with iOS 26 for compatible iPhones or One UI 8 launching its first wave with the Galaxy S25 among the compatible smartphones.

To install HyperOS 3 in beta on your Xiaomi smartphone, here’s how to do it:

  • Download the Mi Community app from the Google Play Store or GetApps. Update if necessary.
  • Log in with your Xiaomi account, or create one quickly.
  • In the app, go to Profile > Settings > Change region, and select Global.
  • Return to the ME tab and open Beta Testing.
  • Select the program corresponding to your model and tap on Apply.
  • Fill out the form. A score above 60 points increases your chances.
  • Write a short motivation and submit your application.
  • Wait about 7 days. Check the status in Mi Community > ME > Beta Testing.
  • Once accepted, you will receive a notification. Install the beta via Settings > About phone > HyperOS version.

However, be aware that HyperOS 3 in beta may cause bugs and significant slowdowns. As the name suggests, it is a test version. Thus, it is expected that not everything will be stable.

What are the risks if I install HyperOS 3 in beta?

Of course, installing HyperOS 3 in beta comes with risks. Always back up your data, since if you want to revert to the stable version, you may have to completely erase your smartphone’s memory. Also, ensure you have enough storage available and at least 40% battery for the installation. Ideally, avoid installing HyperOS 3 on your primary smartphone and use a secondary device instead. In the event of a critical bug, your daily phone won’t be at risk of being locked.

Note that if the app indicates “No data found”, this means your smartphone is either not compatible with HyperOS 3 or you’ll need to wait a bit longer. If you see “Approving”, don’t worry, as Xiaomi’s approval process can take up to a week. Once Xiaomi accepts your application, beta versions will be offered directly in the system settings and will arrive quickly, usually within 48 hours to a few days.
