Huawei MatePad Edge: The Ultra-Tablet 3.1K That Aims to Replace Your Laptop
With the MatePad Edge, Huawei is making one of its most ambitious announcements of the year.
Unveiled alongside the Mate X7 and the Mate 80 series, this new 2-in-1 tablet powered by HarmonyOS doesn’t just compete with the iPad Pro or Galaxy Tab Ultra; it aims to become a true laptop substitute, designed for creators, professionals, and intensive users.
Huawei MatePad Edge: A Stunning, Flexible, Anti-Glare 3.1K Display
The MatePad Edge features a 14.2-inch flexible OLED display, boasting a 3.1K resolution (3120 × 2080) and a 120 Hz refresh rate.

With a 4.1 mm bezel, it achieves an impressive 94% screen-to-body ratio, while discreetly incorporating a 32-megapixel front camera into the frame, thanks to a notch-less design.
Key features include:
- 1000 nits brightness
- Full P3 color gamut
- Professional calibration with ∆E < 1
- HDR Vivid compatibility
- A soft light anti-glare version, ideal for bright environments
Few tablet displays on the market are as refined. This makes it a genuine asset for drawing, video editing, photo retouching… or just reading.
Kirin X90: The Tablet with a PC HarmonyOS Processor
The MatePad Edge introduces Kirin X90/X90A processors, drawn from the same lineage as those used in HarmonyOS PCs. Huawei promises a significant performance boost: 3.8× compared to the 2023 MatePad Pro 13.2.
Running on HarmonyOS 5.1, it provides a seamless transition between tablet mode and desktop mode, advanced multi-window capabilities, four-finger gesture control, an updated control center, and PC-style keyboard shortcuts.
With the floating magnetic keyboard and the M-Pencil Pro, it’s not just a boosted tablet; it’s a genuine hybrid computer.
Photography and Video: A Tablet Designed for Creators

Rare in this segment, Huawei incorporates a high-end camera module with a rear 50-megapixel f/1.8 sensor (8K photo, 4K video) and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide macro f/2.2 sensor, while the front houses a 32-megapixel ultra-wide camera (1080p), perfect for video calls, streaming, or creative front-facing shoots.
The MatePad Edge can thus shoot, frame, and edit directly from the device—a workflow that only Huawei seems to have truly optimized in the tablet market.
Massive Battery Life and Innovative Cooling
The 12,900 mAh battery is colossal, especially combined with 140W SuperCharge and 40W reverse charging to power a smartphone or accessory.
Huawei goes even further with a thermal system worthy of an ultrabook, featuring a dual aluminum fan setup, vapor chambers, precision air channels, ~4000 micro-vents, and a Liquid-Cooling version. In short: the tablet can handle heavy loads without slowing down.
Audio, Connectivity, and Biometrics: A Truly Professional Device

The MatePad Edge is equipped with 6 stereo speakers, optimized spatialization, and a surround mode with the FreeClip, bi-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, USB-C 3.1 Gen1 + DP1.2 video, NearLink, Huawei’s new low-latency technology, various sensors, and an integrated fingerprint sensor.
It is clearly a tool oriented towards hybrid work, external displays, and mobile productivity.
Pricing and Configurations
Available in Deep Space Gray and Moonlight Silver, the 16GB RAM and 256GB storage model is priced at 5,999 CNY (~730 euros), while the version with 32GB + 2TB Soft-Light Liquid-Cooling + keyboard is priced at 12,999 CNY (~1,585 euros).

Huawei presents its most mature and versatile tablet to date. A machine designed for creators, professionals… and anyone looking for an ultra-lightweight computer without the compromises of a traditional PC.
