Huawei Mate 80 Pro+: tandem OLED display, Kirin 9030, and over 6000 mAh according to a leak

Huawei Mate 80 Pro+ : Tandem OLED display, Kirin 9030 and over 6000 mAh according to a leak

Huawei is reportedly making a strong comeback in the ultra-premium segment. A new leak from Digital Chat Station (DCS) has revealed the first specifications of the upcoming Mate 80 Pro+, a model that seems to take innovation even further than the Mate 70.

If confirmed, Huawei is poised to deliver one of its most ambitious smartphones since the return of the Kirin series.

An LTPO Tandem OLED Display for Enhanced Brightness and Endurance

According to DCS, the Mate 80 Pro+ will feature a 6.88-inch LTPO Tandem OLED display with a 1.5K resolution and a micro-curved design. The term Tandem OLED refers to a dual-layer emissive structure, a technology already seen in some smartwatches and electric vehicles.

The results will include:

  • Improved brightness (without excessive power consumption),
  • Increased energy efficiency,
  • Extended panel lifespan.

This technology could give the Mate 80 Pro+ a significant advantage in visual comfort and durability—two common shortcomings of traditional OLED displays.

A Redesigned Camera Module with Variable Lens and Super Telephoto

At the front, the smartphone will reportedly retain a single selfie camera, accompanied by a 3D ToF sensor, all within a triple-hole cutout. On the back, Huawei will focus on a triple-camera setup, led by a 50-megapixel LOFIC sensor (1/1.28″) with a variable aperture.

This main sensor will be supported by a 48-megapixel periscope telephoto lens, featuring a novel 3P+3P autofocus system capable of combining long-range zoom and precise macro shooting. This will enhance the photographic identity of the Mate series, long regarded as the leading Chinese smartphones for photography prior to the US embargo.

Kirin 9030 and Over 6000 mAh: Huawei Packs a Punch

Under the hood, you will find the new Kirin 9030 processor, an evolution of the 9020 with improved energy efficiency. Regarding battery life, the leak mentions a battery exceeding 6000 mAh, compatible with 100 W wired charging and 80 W wireless charging—an impressive pairing for a smartphone in this category.

Another new feature is eSIM support in addition to the traditional nanoSIM. This would mark a first for the Mate series and a logical step towards a more compact and sustainable design.

HarmonyOS 6 and Embedded AI

The Mate 80 Pro+ will run on HarmonyOS 6, incorporating embedded AI features into the system, including contextual recognition, intelligent photo processing, and usage-based suggestions.

This will also serve as the software base for the Mate X7, the brand’s upcoming foldable device, expected to launch simultaneously.

Launch Expected in November

According to DCS, Huawei plans to unveil the Mate 80 series in November, alongside the Mate X7. The positioning is clear: to showcase that Huawei remains a key player in the tech arena, even without Google services or international 5G.

With the Mate 80 Pro+, Huawei continues its strategy: focusing on hardware innovation and energy management to offset its software constraints. The transition to a Tandem OLED display and the Kirin 9030 confirms that the company is accelerating its technological independence, particularly from Western supply chains.

While the design stays true to the Mate ethos—refined, powerful, and photography-focused—the real challenge will be international availability. However, on a technical level, Huawei appears ready to reclaim the top spot in the Chinese premium market.
