Honor prepares the Magic 8 Mini, a direct competitor to the iPhone Air
Apple’s iPhone Air has generated significant buzz with its ultra-slim design and technical innovations. However, it may soon face a formidable rival: the Honor Magic 8 Mini, a compact smartphone equipped with artificial intelligence that the Chinese brand is already developing for 2026.
The Magic 8 Mini: A “Mini” That’s Not So Small
On October 15, Honor surprised the market with the launch of its new Magic 8 and Magic 8 Pro, two high-end models featuring self-evolving AI capabilities and a redesigned look. According to the brand, these smartphones mark “a new era for smart devices,” combining innovative form, adaptive intelligence, and a connected lifestyle.
But Honor is not stopping there. To build on this momentum, the company is working on a compact version called the Magic 8 Mini, aimed explicitly at competing directly with the iPhone Air.
Expected Specifications of the Magic 8 Mini
Initial information suggests that the Magic 8 Mini will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 processor, paired with an Immortalis-Drage GPU, ensuring better energy efficiency and enhanced performance for gaming and multitasking.
The device will also feature faster memory, advanced AI integration, and premium storage capabilities. Despite its smaller size, Honor aims to include a larger battery than that of the iPhone Air, while maintaining a sleek and lightweight design.
High-Level Security and Photography
Like the Pro versions, the Magic 8 Mini is expected to include 3D facial recognition and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor under the display. For photography, a 200-megapixel main camera is reportedly in the works—an impressive feat for a compact device—thanks to a miniaturized module that enhances thinness.
A Potential “Air Killer” in the Making?
Honor plans to replace its Ultimate Edition and RSR Porsche Design versions with two new variants: the Magic 8 Ultra and the Magic 8 Mini. The Mini, which is more accessible yet still premium, is clearly intended to compete with the iPhone Air by offering more power and AI features in a smaller format.
If the promises hold true, the Magic 8 Mini could become the most advanced compact smartphone on the market and reignite the pursuit of slimness in a sector dominated by XXL models.
