Google Has Just Plugged Its Gemini AI Directly Into Maps. Your Navigation App Becomes a True Co-Pilot.
The world’s most popular navigation app has integrated Gemini. Out with the old Google Assistant and in with a co-pilot capable of understanding context, conversing naturally, and making your journeys much smoother.
Gemini Becomes Your New Intelligent Co-Pilot
🧵 New feature drops 🧵
Navigation in Google Maps is getting a powerful boost with Gemini. Ask for whatever you need — like planning a stop at a restaurant or parking details — and Gemini handles the rest.

Thus, Gemini finally makes its way into Google Maps. The AI now understands complex multi-step queries. Gemini will sift through 250 million locations on Google Maps, cross-referencing reviews and prices, and even parking options before responding.
Another advantage of Gemini is its connection to other Google services (with your consent). You can speak to it like a personal assistant during your trip. Google has also adopted a well-known feature from Waze fans (which, by the way, it also owns). It will be possible to report incidents on the road vocally.
Let’s face it, we’ve all missed a turn because we didn’t know where that “turn left in 200 meters” was. Gemini aims to eliminate that confusion. Thanks to the analysis of Street View images and map data, the AI can now guide you with visual cues in Google Maps.
The location will even be highlighted on the map to avoid any confusion. This feature is already rolling out in the United States on Android and iOS and is expected to expand to other countries soon.

Moreover, two additional features are rolling out first in the United States. Proactive traffic alerts will notify you of traffic jams or road closures before you even start navigation (Android only). And Lens with Gemini allows you to point your phone at a location and get information about it.
The new version of Google Maps featuring Gemini will be available in the coming weeks on Android and iOS in all countries where Gemini is already accessible, including France. A dedicated version for Android Auto is also planned.
