These references did not exist in previous versions, confirming that Gemini will finally be entering vehicles, a feature that has been long anticipated. Moreover, AI assistance will allow for better use, though it should be noted that this is an optional setting.

Gemini Available “This Fall” on Android Auto

The codes indicate that users will be able to turn Gemini on or off at any time, which will use the exact vehicle location to provide the necessary assistance. Google has been working for months on integrating Gemini into Android Auto, but the past few weeks have been challenging, with the company mainly focused on the Pixel 10 presentation.

Now, the company confirms a launch window for “this fall.” Therefore, Gemini will be making its way into your vehicle, although currently, AI in the infotainment system is still in beta and not in its final version. These are indications in the code, and Google retains control over the final launch schedule. By allowing precise location access, Gemini will be able to provide contextual information nearby. For example, it could suggest an optimal route or recommend stops when necessary.

Android Auto 15.1 does not only introduce Gemini. The Material 3 interface has been refined with even more customization options and a light mode that users have been eagerly awaiting. The decompilation of the APK reveals features in preparation, but there is no indication of their definitive rollout.

Android Auto is betting on Gemini to solidify its status as a leader with 250 million users by 2025. The competition is lagging considerably, particularly Apple with its Apple Intelligence, which is struggling to integrate into CarPlay, a solution that is not coming anytime soon. As for Waze, the application also belongs to Google, which has a clear monopoly in the navigation apps market.
