Android Auto: a bug interrupts the music, and it’s the fault of Google Maps and Waze

Android Authority has reported a problem affecting multiple smartphone brands based on user experiences. This issue arises following a previous bug that caused system crashes on Pixel 10 devices, which Google has fortunately resolved. Now, users on Reddit are discussing a persistent interruption of music playback while using Android Auto in wireless mode.

This Android Auto Bug Interrupts Music Playback Due to Google Maps and Waze

Among those affected, a Galaxy S23+ owner noted that Android Auto functioned flawlessly until August 27, when the music began to skip every 20 seconds. Interestingly, the user revealed that they updated Google Maps to version 25.32.05.796159725 that very day, and no other changes were made to the smartphone.

It is important to note that this is not the first instance of audio interruptions occurring under Android Auto in wireless mode. Google Maps version 25.35.00.798803015 had reportedly fixed the issue, but the subsequent update, version 25.33.02.800913331, released on September 8, appears to have reintroduced the problem.

For many, there is a direct correlation with Google Maps, which continues to enhance its features, including Live Updates for Galaxy and Pixel devices. A Moto G Stylus user confirmed this possibility as well, noting that disabling location tracking in Google Maps eliminates audio stuttering. However, this user also mentioned that they experience disruptions in both wireless and wired modes.

It is possible that, in addition to Google Maps, Waze might also be affected, as both apps share system resources being part of the same parent company. The interaction between these applications and audio streaming through Android Auto seems to create conflicts regarding processor prioritization.

At this time, Google has not addressed requests for comment regarding this bug, and no official solution has been released. Temporary workarounds are available while we await a potential fix, one of which includes using Bluetooth for streaming. This method bypasses Android Auto but deprives drivers of the system’s integrated infotainment features.

This is yet another disappointing development for users of Google Maps and Waze, as several smartphones are now becoming incompatible.
