Amazon launches “Help me choose”: the AI that picks the right product for you

Amazon Launches ‘Help Me Decide’: AI That Chooses the Right Product for You

Amazon continues to integrate artificial intelligence into its e-commerce ecosystem with a new feature called ‘Help Me Decide’.

The goal: to simplify the purchasing process for customers overwhelmed by countless options.

An AI That Recommends (and Explains) Your Best Choices

Available now in the United States on the Amazon mobile app (iOS and Android) as well as mobile browsers, Help Me Decide recommends a product with a single click, accompanied by a detailed explanation:

  • why this product suits your needs,
  • its key features,
  • and how it stands out from other similar items.

The tool leverages your purchase and browsing history, preferences, customer reviews, and even seasonal trends. For instance, if you’ve recently bought children’s sleeping bags and a camping stove, Amazon might recommend a family-sized four-season tent.

Help Me Decide saves you time by using AI to recommend the right product after you’ve browsed several similar items,” explains Daniel Lloyd, Vice President of Personalization at Amazon.

Three Recommendations: The Best, The Upgrade, and The Budget

The main recommendation comes with two additional options: a premium version (“upgrade pick”) and an affordable one. The button appears automatically at the top of the product page after several similar searches or through the “Keep shopping for” section on the homepage.

This new feature adds to several existing buying assistance tools at Amazon:

  • Rufus, the conversational AI assistant, which answers questions about products and compares them;
  • Shopping Guides that provide expert advice;
  • and Interests that suggest new products based on your preferences.

Some analysts believe Amazon should combine these multiple AI functions for a smoother experience.

Between Simplification and Concerns

For Amazon, Help Me Decide aims to reduce the “choice paralysis” that affects many buyers and boost conversion rates. However, this enhanced personalization raises questions:

  • Does AI favor certain products, particularly Amazon’s own brands?
  • How are personal data utilized for these recommendations?

According to a Bloomberg report, the success of the system will depend on its transparency and the trust it can establish.

Toward a Predictive Shopping Experience

This initiative is part of a broader strategy: transforming Amazon into a self-directed shopping platform where AI anticipates users’ needs. With Help Me Decide, the e-commerce giant aims to make the search for the right product an almost instant and frictionless experience.

The future of online commerce is AI that understands what you’re looking for even before you articulate it,” comments an industry analyst.
