Zorin OS 18 Sets Record With 1 Million Downloads in Just One Month for Its Linux Distribution. Additionally, it was revealed that 78% of these downloads come from PCs running Windows, amounting to approximately 780,000 users.
Microsoft now finds itself in a difficult situation. The end of Windows 10 is pushing users towards alternatives like macOS. However, another operating system is grabbing the community’s attention: Zorin OS 18, whose success is undeniable.
Zorin OS 18 Has Been Downloaded by 780,000 Windows Users
The creators of this Linux distribution shared these statistics on their official blog. It suggests that many loyal Windows users have decided to turn their backs on Microsoft in light of the end of Windows 10 support. Zorin OS 18 has successfully aimed to provide the best environment for those leaving the Redmond ecosystem.
Several factors have convinced Windows users to switch to Zorin OS 18. Its interface is much more user-friendly, allowing for a gradual exploration of Linux features. Thus, user comfort is at the core of this Linux distribution’s experience.

However, these figures should be taken with caution. We do not know how many users actually installed Zorin OS 18 among this million downloads, nor how many have reverted back to Microsoft’s operating system after trying out Linux. Consequently, assessing the impact of this Linux distribution on user migration remains challenging.
Nevertheless, it is evident that, in light of the rejection of Windows 11, which attempts bold changes, there is a noticeable curiosity among users. After all, Zorin OS 18 is an independent Linux distribution, and achieving a million downloads is quite an impressive record against a GAFAM.
That said, it is still too early to proclaim “the year of Linux”. However, we do see more and more people turning their backs on Windows, especially knowing that Microsoft aims to force AI into its offerings. One can bet that in the coming years, the operating system market may look very different, with formidable competitors emerging. Both Linux and Apple will likely play significant roles, especially as we see budget-friendly MacBooks with macOS entering the market.
