“You’re talking nonsense”: Microsoft erupts in anger as Windows AI fails to please

Mustafa Suleyman, AI Director at Microsoft, is baffled by your dislike for this forcibly integrated Copilot technology in Windows. The head of the company does not hesitate to express his frustration towards users. It’s clear that a significant gap exists between Microsoft’s intentions and the actual needs of users.

The fact is, Windows 10 remains incredibly popular even without AI integration. In contrast, Windows 11, which adds this technology rather forcefully, has not fared well. This reality frustrates Mustafa Suleyman, who stated on X: “Goodness, there are so many cynics; it cracks me up to hear people say anything negative about AI. I grew up playing Snake on my Nokia phone. The idea that people are unimpressed by our ability to have a fluid conversation with a super-intelligent AI that can generate any image or video blows my mind.”

You Don’t Want AI in Windows? Microsoft Thinks You Are Overreacting

This public stance might bring a smile, especially considering the tense context surrounding Microsoft’s AI strategy. Pavan Davuluri, President of Windows, sparked a media uproar by suggesting on X that Windows would be replaced by an AI agent. The backlash was terrible, leading him to disable responses. Nevertheless, Davuluri has attempted to reassure users by indicating that the company is listening to their feedback.

Mustafa Suleyman’s indignation appears to be entirely disconnected from reality. According to a survey by The Verge, Copilot’s current capabilities do not align with what Microsoft advertises. Tests reveal that, in most cases, the assistant struggles to perform tasks smoothly or seamlessly as demonstrated during promotional campaigns.

Oh, and as a kiss of death, Elon Musk chimed in, stating that Mustafa Suleyman makes a “valid point.” However, one might not feel overjoyed to receive support from the billionaire, especially given the erratic remarks from Grok, which recently included antisemitic statements.

No Matter What, Microsoft is Committed to AI in Windows

Yet, Microsoft unveiled a new slogan: “Your Canvas for AI”, continuing their plan to transform Windows into an AI agent despite user rejection. But considering Copilot’s lackluster performance, it’s questionable whether users will embrace this change.

Microsoft is far too obsessed with AI, benefiting other operating systems that do not integrate this technology into their experience. For instance, Linux is showing promise, with Zorin OS 18 being downloaded by 780,000 Windows users. Additionally, there’s a GAFAM taking advantage of the situation; Apple could indeed pose a challenge to Windows with a potential entry-level MacBook.
