Huawei MatePad Edge: The First 2-in-1 HarmonyOS Tablet with 24 GB of RAM Officially Announced
Huawei continues to push the limits further. Following the Mate 80 RS and Mate X7 with 20 GB of RAM, the brand unveils the MatePad Edge, a 2-in-1 tablet that breaks new ground with 24 GB of RAM.
This figure rivals that of a professional ultrabook, clearly signaling Huawei’s ambition in the “post-PC” computing arena.
Huawei MatePad Edge: A Tablet That Approaches PC Performance on All Levels
Officially announced today, the Huawei MatePad Edge opens a new chapter in the manufacturer’s hybrid lineup. Launched in a 14.2-inch OLED format, it is large enough to be compared to a MacBook Air or MateBook X, functioning in both tablet and PC modes with an automatic switch detected by the system.
However, the most intriguing details often come from Digital Chat Station.
According to the source, the premium configuration features 24 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage, powered by a “PC-grade” Kirin 9 series chipset, with active cooling via an integrated fan. In other words, this tablet doesn’t just try to imitate a PC; it becomes one.

A Clearly Defined Hardware Shift: Advanced Keyboard, Trackpad, and Integrated Ports
Huawei complements this increase in power with a keyboard designed for prolonged use:
- 1.8 mm key travel, a luxury in the detachable segment,
- a pressure-sensitive Free Touch trackpad,
- multi-angle hovering support,
- and a 65 W charging port integrated.
Rarely has a tablet provided an experience so close to a modern ultraportable.
DCS also mentions a Soft Light version, featuring an anti-reflective screen designed to reduce eye strain—clearly targeting mobile workers.
Models, Colors, and Variants
Two configurations are expected:
- 24 GB/1 TB (premium model),
- 16 GB/512 GB (more standard version).
Available colors include Moonlight Silver and Space Gray, two understated shades familiar to high-end PC users.

The First HarmonyOS 2-in-1: A Deeper Shift Than It Appears
The MatePad Edge is not just a hardware update. It signifies the end of the MateBook E era running Windows (MateBook E [2021] and MateBook E Go [2022]). Both were Windows-based 2-in-1 devices—Huawei is now changing its philosophy.
With the MatePad Edge, the company fully transitions to HarmonyOS, marking its first native 2-in-1 within its own ecosystem.
This change is strategic: Huawei no longer wants to follow PC standards but aims to create a cohesive environment between smartphones, tablets, and hybrids—a continuity similar to Apple, but tailored for the Chinese market and current geopolitical constraints.
A Major Launch on November 25
The MatePad Edge will be presented alongside the Mate 80, concluding a year where Huawei has pushed several technological boundaries, despite a challenging industrial context.
With 24 GB of RAM, a homegrown “PC-level” SoC, and HarmonyOS at the core, Huawei sends a clear message: the future of computing may come from elsewhere than traditional PCs.
