Huawei Mate 80: The flagship may have 20GB of RAM, a world record

The Huawei Mate 80 series is approaching its launch, scheduled for November 25, and as is often the case, leaks are already shaping the profile of the new flagships. The latest rumor from China has caught attention: Huawei is considering equipping some models of the Mate 80 series with a massive 20GB of RAM.

Currently, even the highest-end Android smartphones are capped between 12 and 16GB. A jump to 20GB would instantly distinguish the Mate 80 as a unique device—a kind of technological showcase aimed at reclaiming dominance in the premium market.

A Mate 80 Ready to Push Hardware Limits

The Mate 80 is expected to debut the Kirin 9030, a new in-house chip that remains somewhat shrouded in mystery, except that it will represent a significant performance upgrade over its predecessor.

The entire range will also feature a 3D facial recognition system, a first for the standard model, which has previously been reserved for the Pro or RS versions.

Leaks also mention a prototype equipped with an active internal fan, suggesting either highly aggressive thermal optimization or ambitions for sustained performance, potentially related to AI or gaming.

A Restructured Range with the Arrival of Mate 80 Pro Max

Huawei is reportedly preparing four models: the standard Mate 80, the Mate 80 Pro, the new Mate 80 Pro Max, and the Mate 80 RS Master Edition. The Pro Max will replace the Pro+ designation, but the change won’t be purely cosmetic. According to MyDrivers, Huawei is planning to establish a clearer differentiation between the Pro and Pro Max, although specific specifications have yet to leak.

The entire series will adopt a new red maple photo module, a premium design that marks a significant aesthetic departure from previous Mate models. There will also be a side fingerprint reader, a relatively rare choice for this range, possibly linked to design constraints or 3D unlocking systems.

Upcoming Launch, But Caution Regarding Leaks

As always, nothing is set in stone until the official announcement.

Nonetheless, the prospect of a Mate 80 featuring 20GB of RAM, the Kirin 9030, potential active cooling, and a new range organization suggests that Huawei is poised to deliver one of its most significant breakthroughs in years.
