The Fitbit app is undergoing a major Material 3 overhaul

Fitbit app gets a major Material 3 makeover

The major facelift of the Fitbit app is finally here — and this time, Google has delivered. After months of anticipation, the health and fitness tracking service receives a complete visual refresh under Material 3, alongside deeper integration of the AI coach Gemini.

Fitbit adopts the “Material 3 Expressive” visual language

Some U.S. users of Fitbit Premium are already experiencing the update ahead of schedule. The redesign brings a smoother, more colorful interface that’s consistent with other modern Google apps.

Main new features include:

  • A shorter, clearer, and more ergonomic bottom navigation bar.
  • Simplified synchronization: just pull down on any tab (Today, Fitness, Sleep, etc.) to connect with a Pixel Watch or a Fitbit band.
  • During synchronization, a dynamic circular animation featuring Material 3 shapes is displayed.
  • Once the sync is complete, the “Fitbit Premium” label disappears, replaced by a linear progress bar indicating your achievements.

A small visual bonus: when you achieve a goal, a checkmark animation appears — a simple but motivating detail.

Fitbit M3E redesign 5

A redesigned interface for statistics and navigation

Each section (Steps, Sleep, Activity, etc.) now features a floating bar with an action button (FAB) to change the analysis period: day, week, month, 3 months, or year, with a colorful themed background according to the category: turquoise blue for Fitness and purple for Sleep.

The pages now adopt a layered presentation: key statistics remain fixed on a thematic background while the rest of the content scrolls on an expandable card.

This design creates a sense of depth and lightness, similar to Google Fit or the Android 14 Health app.

AI Coach Gemini and more intuitive navigation

A dedicated floating button for the AI coach provides direct access to the Gemini Health Coach, which launched in Preview last month. This smart coach can analyze your activity data, propose personalized plans, and answer your health questions using Google’s generative AI.

This integration positions Fitbit as a key component of Google’s future wellness ecosystem, alongside Google Health and Pixel Watches.

What’s still missing

Currently, no Dynamic Color support is available. The interface retains Fitbit’s signature blue accent rather than automatically adopting Android’s dynamic palette.

However, Google has hinted that this feature is expected to arrive during the global rollout planned for 2026.

Availability

  • Currently in Preview for Fitbit Premium subscribers in the U.S.
  • Global rollout expected in early 2026 for Android and iOS.

The new Fitbit Material 3 marks a significant shift in the brand’s visual identity. More modern, more consistent with Android, and enriched with an intelligent AI coach, the app transforms into a true health hub.

Although the interface still feels a bit cluttered in this initial Preview version, Google is clearly demonstrating that it takes Fitbit seriously. A successful and promising makeover for the future.
