Google has just rolled out an urgent update for Chrome. This time, it’s not just about performance improvements. Five critical vulnerabilities have been identified in Google’s browser, three of which could potentially allow a hacker to gain full control of your machine.
Chrome, the world’s most popular browser, is now under high alert. Google confirmed the existence of five security flaws in its code, which could expose millions of users to stealthy attacks. The patches are already online, but users must install the update promptly to stay protected.
Vulnerabilities That Open the Door to Hackers
Google has urgently released a Chrome update following the discovery of five security vulnerabilities in the browser’s code, three of which are critical. These flaws could allow a hacker to take complete control of your computer simply by having you visit a compromised site.
Among these vulnerabilities, the most serious one is hidden in WebGPU, the module that manages accelerated graphics in Chrome. If exploited, this flaw allows a malicious site to write data to restricted memory areas, enabling it to execute code remotely.
Two other critical flaws are found in Views (the rendering engine for Chrome elements) and V8, the browser’s JavaScript engine. In both cases, hackers can leverage invisible scripts to manipulate display elements or inject unauthorized code.
The other two vulnerabilities are of moderate severity but still concerning. They relate to the address bar. A hacker could display a false URL to trick users into thinking they are on a legitimate site, making it perfect for a well-crafted phishing attack. One of the flaws even allows modifying the appearance of the URL, making the deception even more credible.
Update Chrome Without Delay
Fortunately, Google has already rolled out the fixes in collaboration with several cybersecurity researchers. The update addresses these vulnerabilities across all platforms: version 142.0.7444.134/.135 for Windows, version 142.0.7444.135 for macOS, and version 142.0.7444.134 for Linux.
To install the update, open Chrome, click on ⋮, then Help, and finally About Google Chrome. The application will automatically check for updates, and once the download is complete, click on Relaunch.

To recap, these five vulnerabilities in Google Chrome allow for full control of a PC, display of false addresses, or execution of malicious code. While the company acted swiftly, the update will only protect you if you install it. Therefore, before reopening your countless tabs, take 30 seconds to secure your browser.
I also recommend updating Chrome as soon as updates are released. Remember, behind every bug fix, there’s usually a hacker who almost succeeded.
Feel free to adjust any specific aspects further if needed!
