The Vivo X300 Ultra arrives in Europe: two 200-megapixel sensors to challenge the Galaxy S26 Ultra
For years, Samsung has dominated the flagship “Ultra” segment almost unchallenged. However, this might change as early as 2026. New leaks suggest that in addition to the Vivo X300 and Vivo X300 Pro, Vivo is preparing to launch its Vivo X300 Ultra internationally, a smartphone that could finally compete with the Galaxy S26 Ultra outside of China.
Vivo Set to Export Its Ultra Model for the First Time
The Vivo X300 Ultra has been spotted in the GSMA IMEI database under the model number V2562, signaling an imminent international launch, according to Smartprix. This would be a first for Vivo, which has previously kept its “Ultra” models limited to China, only exporting standard or Pro variants.
The Vivo X300 Ultra could thus be the first true direct competitor to the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra in markets such as Europe, India, and the Middle East.
Two 200-Megapixel Sensors: A Turning Point for Mobile Photography
Vivo appears determined to make a significant impact. Initial rumors indicate a dual main sensor setup of 200 megapixels, a world first:
- 200 megapixels main (wide-angle)
- 200 megapixels periscope telephoto
- 50 megapixels ultra-wide
- 50 megapixels selfie
The previous model, the Vivo X200 Ultra, had only a single 200-megapixel sensor and was already among the top camera phones of 2025. With this new configuration, Vivo could surpass Samsung in pure optical quality, especially regarding zoom capabilities and detail precision.
The smartphone is also expected to include the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Qualcomm’s latest high-end chip, along with a large battery and fast charging (presumably 120 W).
Launch Expected in China in January, Internationally in March 2026
According to leaks, the Vivo X300 Ultra will first be unveiled in January 2026 in China, before making an international debut around March 2026. This launch window is quite close to that of the Galaxy S26 Ultra, also anticipated for March 2026.
In other words: a showdown is inevitable.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra Facing Real Competition
Samsung’s upcoming flagship is expected to maintain a formula similar to that of the S25 Ultra, featuring:
- an AMOLED QHD+ 120 Hz display,
- a 200-megapixel main sensor,
- a 5,000 mAh battery,
- and slightly faster charging (45 to 65 W according to rumors).
However, these advancements seem modest. If Vivo offers a more aggressive specifications sheet (particularly in camera and charging capabilities), some Samsung users may be tempted to switch.
“Samsung and Apple have had it too easy in recent years,” comments an analyst on Smartprix. “Brands like Vivo and OnePlus are changing the game. And that’s great news for consumers.” If the Vivo X300 Ultra lives up to its promises, it could redefine the global hierarchy of high-end Android devices, forcing Samsung to become more ambitious with its future Ultra models.
After years of near-solo domination, Samsung may finally face a credible rival in the Ultra segment.
