WhatsApp will help you manage storage conversation by conversation
If you regularly use WhatsApp, your phone is likely filled with photos, videos, and documents shared in your conversations.
WhatsApp is currently working on a new storage management feature that will provide a much clearer control over the space taken up by each conversation — along with new tools to delete unnecessary large files.
Storage Management by Conversation
According to findings from WaBetaInfo in the latest iOS beta version of the app, WhatsApp is adding a new “Manage Storage” tab directly within the info page of each chat.
This section will display a grid of all the files shared in that chat — photos, videos, and documents — with the option to sort them by size or date sent.
You will be able to quickly identify and delete bulky or outdated files without having to navigate through the general settings menu.
A Small Addition, But A True Improvement in Comfort
WhatsApp already allows global storage management from its settings, but integrating this feature at the individual chat level makes cleaning much more intuitive.
No more lengthy searches in the main menu: each chat can now be managed separately.
Currently, this feature is available only to a limited number of iOS beta users, but a gradual rollout is expected in the coming weeks.
A Solution Anticipated by Heavy Users
With family groups, work conversations, and meme exchanges, WhatsApp chats can quickly fill up your phone’s memory. This update is particularly aimed at those who don’t want to leave their active groups but wish to retain control over their storage.
What if WhatsApp goes even further by adding an option to automatically limit the size of each conversation? That would be the perfect finishing touch to lighten our smartphones without giving up our favorite chats.
