First official glimpse of the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold: the tri-fold smartphone becomes a reality

After years of rumors and reports, the moment has finally arrived. Samsung is reportedly on the verge of launching its most ambitious foldable yet, the Galaxy Z TriFold.

According to a new report from the Korea Herald, the South Korean giant is set to unveil its first tri-fold smartphone this week during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit 2025, taking place in Gyeongju, South Korea, from October 31 to November 1.

Prior to the official opening of the summit, Samsung showcased the Galaxy Z TriFold at the K-Tech Showcase, a parallel event held at Gyeongju Expo Park Air Dome.

The Galaxy Z TriFold: Samsung’s Next Big Gamble

The device, long anticipated under potential names like Galaxy Z TriFold or Galaxy G Fold, represents a significant evolution in the brand’s foldable design. This launch aligns with earlier expectations of a release in 2025, albeit arriving months ahead of schedule.

Initially, Samsung was expected to reveal the tri-fold smartphone alongside its XR headset, the Galaxy XR, which was unveiled last week. However, production issues reportedly hindered a simultaneous presentation.

Good news for enthusiasts: the delay is minimal.

A Subtle Yet Real Presentation

Samsung has finally displayed the Galaxy Z TriFold as a technological centerpiece. It was indeed the real model, but no teaser videos or promotional images were shared during the event.

The manufacturer opted not to reveal everything at this stage: no journalists or attendees had the chance to handle the device, which is typical for such presentations.

Official photos show two versions:

  • one completely folded, resembling a standard smartphone,
  • the other unfolded, revealing a giant main screen of about 10 inches (9.96″).

Limited Production and Premium Pricing

According to the report, the initial production will be limited to 50,000 – 200,000 units to test market demand before a global launch. Targeted initial markets include the United States, South Korea, China, Singapore, Taiwan, and the United Arab Emirates.

As for the price, brace yourself: the Galaxy Z TriFold could start at around $2,800, approximately $1,000 more than the Galaxy Z Fold 7. This premium is justified by the complexity of the design and the large deployable screen.

The device is expected to feature an external screen of 6.5 inches that unfolds to create a 10-inch main screen, providing a tablet-like experience. It should support the S Pen, include a redesigned hinge with less visible creases, and integrate seamlessly into the Galaxy ecosystem (watches, headphones, etc.).

Under the hood, the Galaxy Z TriFold would house the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy as well as support for wireless charging and reverse charging.

A Symbolic Launch

Even though the tri-fold design may likely remain a niche product, it symbolizes Samsung’s determination to regain an edge over Huawei, whose Mate XTs have found considerable success in China.

If confirmed, this model would represent Samsung’s boldest design since the original Galaxy Fold launched in 2019.
