The Xiaomi 17 Ultra Promises a Photo Revolution with a 200-Megapixel Telephoto Lens

The upcoming Xiaomi 17 Ultra continues to generate buzz ahead of its anticipated launch later this year in China. Notable leaker Digital Chat Station (DCS) has shared new details regarding the camera setup of the future flagship — and the promises are impressive.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra: A Complete Overhaul of the Camera System

According to DCS, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will feature a new 50-megapixel main sensor with a notably larger sensor and enhanced digital zoom technology. The device would provide a seamless transition between the main sensor and the telephoto lens, ensuring a focal range without loss of quality.

However, the real novelty will come from the 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens, equipped with a large sensor capable of handling multiple focal lengths without image degradation. This module will also support a telephoto macro mode, with good magnifying capabilities — although the focus may not be ultra close.

Both main sensors are expected to offer an extended dynamic range (HDR), marking a significant leap in photo quality for Xiaomi smartphones.

A Sleeker Design, No Secondary Screen

The circular and prominent rear camera module will occupy a large part of the back of the phone. Unlike the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will not feature a secondary screen on the back, allowing for a more streamlined design.

Under the hood, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the same processor found in the rest of the Xiaomi 17 lineup. On the front, there will be a flat 6.8-inch OLED display, boasting a 2K resolution and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

The smartphone will be available in three colors: black, white, and purple.

With such a technical specification and an ambitious camera configuration, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is shaping up to be one of the most advanced camera phones of 2025 — a serious competitor to the Galaxy S26 Ultra and the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
