Galaxy Watch 8: It Measures Antioxidants in 5 Seconds, a World First
Samsung takes a new step in connected health with the Galaxy Watch 8, the first smartwatch capable of measuring antioxidants in your body in just five seconds thanks to an integrated carotenoid sensor on the back of the watch.
This innovation, the result of over seven years of research, miniaturizes lab technology to provide unprecedented nutritional tracking directly on your wrist.
A Revolution in Nutritional Tracking
Until now, smartwatches have primarily focused on tracking physical activity and calories burned. With the “Antioxidant Index” feature, Samsung now measures carotenoids, pigments found in fruits and vegetables known for their health benefits and role in preventing cellular aging.
Developed alongside public nutrition expert Dr. Hyojee Joung (National University of Seoul), this technology transforms complex scientific data into simple, actionable indicators.
A Miniaturized Laboratory Technology
Traditionally, measuring carotenoids relies on large Raman spectroscopy devices. Samsung has succeeded in condensing this into a coin-sized sensor that combines multi-wavelength LEDs and photodetectors to analyze the light reflected by the skin.
