Honor is preparing a « Magic 8 Mini »: a future compact high-end device with a 200-megapixel sensor
After Xiaomi and Vivo, Honor is also set to join the race for compact flagship smartphones with its Magic 8 Mini.
According to new information shared on Weibo by leaker Digital Chat Station, the brand is working on a model named Honor Magic 8 Mini, expected to launch in the first half of 2026.
Magic 8 Mini: A Compact Format with High-End Specs
The Magic 8 Mini is expected to capture the premium spirit of the Magic 8 while adopting a more manageable format, similar to the recent Xiaomi 17 and Vivo X300, both around 6.3 inches.
According to the leak, the device will include:
- Flat 6.31-inch OLED display with a 1.5K resolution,
- Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor under the screen, typical of high-end models,
- Powerful Dimensity 9500 SoC, possibly in an overclocked version 9500+,
- Wireless charging — a rarity in this format.
Details regarding the battery, memory, or wired charging have not yet emerged, but all indications suggest that Honor aims to maintain a complete flagship experience, despite the smaller size.
A 200-Megapixel Sensor for Photography
On the photography front, the brand is pulling out all the stops: the Magic 8 Mini is expected to feature a 200-megapixel main sensor, accompanied by a periscope telephoto lens for optical zoom.
The presence (or absence) of an ultra-wide-angle lens remains to be confirmed, as it is still missing from early leaks.
The “Mini-Flagships” Market is Booming
Honor is not alone in betting on this format: the OPPO Find X9+, OnePlus 15T, and iQOO 15 Mini are also slated for early 2026. After years dominated by large screens, Chinese manufacturers seem keen to revive more compact formats without sacrificing performance or photography.
The Magic 8 Mini appears to be a high-end, compact alternative, designed to appeal to those who find modern flagships too bulky.
If the rumors hold true, Honor will offer a reduced-size smartphone with XXL ambitions: power, versatility, and premium photography in a design crafted for easy handling.
