Less than two days after the launch of ChatGPT Atlas, its brand-new AI-powered web browser, OpenAI shows no signs of slowing down. The company, aiming to disrupt the dominance of Google Chrome, is already working on a first wave of enhancements.

A Launch Followed by a Shower of New Features

Adam Fry, the project lead for ChatGPT Atlas at OpenAI, confirmed on X that his team is “already going all out to improve the browser.”

Upcoming features include:

  • User profiles,
  • Tab groups,
  • And even an optional ad blocker.

These additions are part of the “post-launch fixes” list published by Fry, most of which are expected to arrive “in the coming weeks,” while some “will take a bit more time.”

Other minor comfort enhancements are also planned, such as:

  • A drop-down menu for favorites,
  • A list of shortcuts,
  • And improved management of pinned tabs (which will be able to automatically reopen when the browser is restarted).

Enhancements for Integrated AI

Key AI-related features will also see improvements. The smart agent—currently available only to ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers—will have faster response times, more reliable pauses, and better integration with Google Drive and Excel Online.

The “Ask ChatGPT” sidebar, which allows interaction with the chatbot directly from the browser, will become more fluid and will enable users to switch projects or AI models without leaving the current page.

Fry also confirmed that the team is testing a prototype that allows direct copy-pasting of text from this sidebar.

Collaboration and Targeted Fixes

OpenAI is also working on specific fixes related to 1Password, the password manager. Some updates will involve external partners, Fry noted, without providing further details.

With ChatGPT Atlas, OpenAI aims to transform web browsing into an intelligent and interactive experience capable of understanding context and acting on behalf of the user.

This series of rapid improvements demonstrates the company’s commitment to addressing the expectations of early testers and solidifying Atlas as a credible alternative to Chrome, Edge, and Safari.
