Pebble makes a grand return: the official application is revived on Android and iOS, 13 years later

More than thirteen years after its launch, the original Pebble application is back on the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store. Fully reinstated, it is compatible with all Pebble watch models, including the new Pebble 2 Duo and Pebble Time 2.

Before Pebble, several brands had already attempted to bring intelligence to the wrist. As early as 2004, the Microsoft SPOT watch displayed weather and news via FM radio, and in 2006, Sony Ericsson released the MBW-100, capable of notifying calls and messages.

However, Pebble truly defined the modern smartwatch concept:

  • A readable e-paper display,
  • Battery life of several weeks,
  • An affordable price (only 150 euros at the time),
  • And, most importantly, the ability to install third-party apps.

A true pioneer of the movement, Pebble gained hundreds of thousands of users through its record-setting Kickstarter campaign in 2012.

Thirteen years later, Pebble is still going strong

It’s almost a technological miracle: these watches, which were released over a decade ago, are still functioning perfectly, largely thanks to the Rebble community and Eric Migicovsky, the founder of Pebble, who now leads the rePebble team.

On October 18, 2025, Migicovsky proudly announced on X (formerly Twitter): “Pebble is officially back on iOS and Android! Everything works just as well as before. What other tech product can say that, 13 years later?

The relaunched application includes over 10,000 watchfaces, 2,000 apps, compatibility with all previous and new models. Granted, everything isn’t perfect yet: the “Timeline” apps are still non-functional, some watchfaces are outdated, and health data cannot currently be synchronized.

Nonetheless, the return of Pebble is a nostalgic and symbolic event.

Pebble, still under Google’s umbrella

Acquired by Fitbit in 2016 and then integrated into Google in 2021, Pebble still belongs to the Mountain View giant. The good news: Google has recently released the source code for Pebble OS on GitHub, paving the way for a community-driven and open-source renaissance.

Where to download Pebble?

You can now download the Pebble application from the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store. For further exploration, check out Rebble, a community project launched just two days after the “official death” of Pebble, aimed at maintaining the servers and keeping this cult ecosystem alive.

Pebble has come back from the dead—quite literally. A 150 euro smartwatch that was released over ten years ago still functions, receives updates, and enjoys genuine community support. In a world where most connected devices become obsolete in a few years, Pebble proves that sustainability can also harmonize with innovation.
