With Copilot Actions, Windows 11 introduces an AI that can directly interact with your PC, manage your files, and perform tasks like a true digital colleague. This marks a step closer to the total automation of the workplace.
Microsoft is taking AI seriously. After integrating Copilot extensively throughout its ecosystem, the Redmond company has unveiled Copilot Actions—a powerful version designed to act on the user’s behalf. This AI interacts directly with your local files and applications to carry out real actions.
Copilot Actions Is the Assistant That Really Does It All
It appears that Microsoft aims to turn your PC into an intelligent collaborator. With Copilot Actions, a new experimental feature of Windows 11, the company wants your computer to act in your place rather than just assist you.
Thus, the AI executes concrete actions. It can open your files, update documents, organize folders, send emails, and even make online reservations. Copilot can click, type, and scroll like a human would behind the screen.
Copilot Actions builds on the advancements made with Copilot on the Web, which could already book a table or order groceries. This time, however, the AI finds its way into the heart of the operating system, with direct access to your local files.
Wow Microsoft just announced Copilot Actions for local files 🤯
You can basically ask Copilot to perform any task on your machine autonomously. Yes.

Microsoft describes this module as an active digital collaborator with advanced vision and reasoning. However, its deployment will be cautious, as the feature remains experimental and is currently only being tested in the Copilot Labs program for Windows Insiders. Microsoft wants to ensure everything is secure before a broader launch.
Microsoft Is in Control
The idea of an AI capable of accessing your files understandably raises concerns. Microsoft is aware of this and is taking a path of transparency and caution. Copilot Actions will operate with separate accounts from yours to prevent it from accessing everything indiscriminately.
The company also promises stringent management of data privacy. Each AI will need to explain what data it collects and how it is used.
Permissions will be strictly limited as well. No actions will be taken without your approval, and every AI agent will have to be signed by a trusted source. Microsoft will also have the capability to automatically revoke any suspicious certificates.

With Copilot Actions, Microsoft is clearly paving the way for a new generation of assistants—specifically autonomous AIs capable of thinking and acting.
