Moto X70 Air: Motorola launches a 6mm thick smartphone with a 4,800 mAh battery
Ultra-thin smartphones are making a comeback, and Motorola is set to establish itself in this new trend. The brand recently unveiled the Moto X70 Air, a model that focuses on extreme thinness — without sacrificing battery life or durability.
Moto X70 Air: Less Than 6mm Thick, But No Compromise
With its 6mm thickness and weighing just 159g, the Moto X70 Air is positioned as one of the most slender smartphones on the market. Yet, it houses a 4,800mAh battery, a remarkable engineering feat for such a compact chassis.
Additionally, it boasts 68W wired charging and 15W wireless charging, as well as an IP69 rating, ensuring protection against water, dust, and minor impacts.
According to sources, Motorola has opted for a silicon-carbon battery, a high-energy-density technology that allows for greater capacity without increasing volume.
The Moto X70 Air does not aim to compete with the most powerful flagships. It features a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, a mid-range processor focused on energy efficiency, and a 6.7-inch OLED display that is smooth and bright.
The camera module remains understated, but Motorola promises a balanced experience between image quality and responsiveness. In other words, it’s not a photography-focused device but a versatile smartphone that’s enjoyable to use daily.
A Well-Thought-Out Strategy: Design + Accessibility
Motorola is playing a strategic card here. While the iPhone Air and Galaxy S25 Edge are positioned in the high-end market, the Moto X70 Air aims to democratize ultra-thin design at a more accessible price point. The Chinese version will launch on October 31, 2025, followed by a European variant expected on November 5, under the name Motorola Edge 70.
Objective: to attract an audience looking for a lightweight, elegant, and durable smartphone without spending over €1,000.
The Bet on Slimness: Advantages and Challenges
Motorola is succeeding where many have failed: offering an ultra-thin phone without sacrificing battery.
However, this achievement poses new challenges:
- Thermal dissipation might prove complex with such a thin casing,
- The limited power of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 may disappoint gamers and power users.
However, the approach is clear: prioritize comfort and battery life over raw performance. With ultra-fast charging, the brand effectively compensates for the constraints of such a compact format.
Toward a New Generation of Ultra-Thin Devices
The Moto X70 Air fits into a broader trend: that of “lifestyle” smartphones, where design and portability take precedence over other features. Under Lenovo’s guidance, Motorola is leveraging its legacy of durability (Razor, Edge) to merge aesthetics with practicality.
If the promised battery life holds true, the Moto X70 Air could become the reference in the slim segment, competing with Apple and Samsung, while remaining more accessible.
