Facebook revives Jobs: Meta resurrects a forgotten feature
Meta has never shied away from experimentation — nor from bringing back past ideas. This time, Facebook Jobs is making its grand return, nearly two years after its disappearance.
The social network is reintroducing its job posting service, now integrated into Facebook Marketplace, with a clear focus: local jobs, on-site positions, and roles accessible without a diploma.
A return to roots for Facebook Jobs
First launched in 2017, the Facebook Jobs feature allowed businesses to post job openings directly on their pages, enabling users to apply without leaving the app. The service expanded to over 40 countries before being limited to the United States and Canada in 2022, and ultimately discontinued in 2023.
However, in 2025, the situation changes. Meta reintegrates this feature into its ecosystem, this time as part of Marketplace — Facebook’s space for local exchanges and sales.
Job listings now appear in a dedicated “Jobs” tab within Marketplace but can also be highlighted in certain local groups or posted directly on business pages.

Focusing on local gigs
The new tool primarily targets nearby job opportunities: hospitality, crafts, personal services, retail, and more. Users must be at least 18 years old, and the listings must adhere to Facebook’s community guidelines.
Notably, advertisements for adult services or the sale of substances are prohibited.
More surprisingly, in-home childcare jobs are also excluded, which is somewhat ironic considering how many local Facebook groups are specifically dedicated to such positions.

A launch under scrutiny
The previous Facebook Jobs program faced backlash from regulators due to instances of targeted discrimination in sponsored listings. Some companies utilized Meta’s advertising tools to exclude groups based on age, gender, or religion — practices that are now strictly prohibited in the new version.
Meta promises that all job listings will adhere to a reinforced anti-discrimination policy, and no advertising targeting based on sensitive criteria will be allowed.
A U.S.-exclusive launch… for now
Currently, the 2025 version of Facebook Jobs is available exclusively in the United States, with no international rollout timeline announced. However, if the test proves successful, an expansion to Canada — or even other markets — seems likely in the coming months.
A pragmatic decision
The return of Facebook Jobs aligns with Meta’s strategy to enhance the practical utility of its platforms at a local scale. While Instagram and Threads focus on content creation, Facebook is repositioning itself in its core competency: connecting communities and local businesses.
This approach might not be glamorous, but it’s likely far more sustainable in a context where AI and “super apps” are redefining online services.
