IBM Partners with Anthropic: Claude Model to be Integrated into Enterprise Software

The American tech giant IBM has announced a strategic partnership with the artificial intelligence laboratory Anthropic to integrate its Claude language models into several software products.

Claude Arrives in IBM Tools

Based in Armonk, New York, IBM specified that the first integration of Claude will take place in its integrated development environment (IDE), currently accessible to a limited group of clients. This collaboration aims to enhance IBM’s generative AI capabilities, particularly in enterprise software development and management.

Additionally, IBM and Anthropic have released a joint guide for businesses on how to design, deploy, and maintain professional-grade AI agents—a topic that is becoming increasingly strategic as autonomous agents gain importance in the workplace.

The financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

Anthropic Accelerates Its Shift to Enterprises

This partnership aligns with Anthropic’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the enterprise sector since launching Claude Enterprise in September 2024.

Last Monday, the AI startup also announced a major agreement with consulting firm Deloitte, enabling the deployment of Claude to nearly 500,000 employees worldwide—the largest corporate deployment undertaken by Anthropic to date.

Enterprises Prefer Claude Over ChatGPT

According to a study released in July by Menlo Ventures, Claude models have now become the most popular among businesses, surpassing those from OpenAI. The study reveals that the use of OpenAI models has been declining since 2023, while the demand for Anthropic tools is rapidly increasing, primarily due to their enhanced safety and more “predictable” alignment.

For IBM, this alliance represents a new step in its AI strategy amid competitors like Microsoft (partnered with OpenAI) and Google. By integrating Claude into its software ecosystem, IBM aims to provide its clients with more customizable and productivity-oriented AI tools while maintaining high levels of security and compliance—key criteria for large enterprises and government entities.
