Realme GT 8 Pro: a partnership with Ricoh for a photo revolution after 4 years of development

Realme GT 8 Pro: A collaboration with Ricoh for a photography revolution after 4 years of development

It has been anticipated, and it is now official: Realme has confirmed its partnership with the Japanese brand Ricoh, a specialist in imaging, for the development of its upcoming flagship, the Realme GT 8 Pro.

However, the real surprise lies in the duration of this collaboration: according to Realme, this project has been in the works for four years — a detail emphasized by the slogan “4 years in one snap” in the teaser released by the brand.

The expertise of Ricoh GR for smartphones

Realme announced that the camera system of the Realme GT 8 Pro will be powered by Ricoh GR, the renowned line of compact cameras dedicated to street photography.

The objective? To deliver an “unprecedented” photographic experience, with advancements in optics, color science, and image processing, according to official statements. The brand also promises a custom photo interface inspired by the look and ergonomics of Ricoh GR cameras, aiming to recreate the sensations of “snap-shot” photography.

The Realme GT 8 Pro will offer a unique imaging experience, featuring fundamental innovations in color processing and optical design,” stated Realme in their press release.

This collaboration reflects a broader trend where smartphone brands are partnering with photography experts — similar to OnePlus x Hasselblad, Xiaomi x Leica, or Vivo x Zeiss.

Realme GT 8 Pro: An innovative modular design

Beyond photography, Realme plans to make an impression with a modular design approach. The Realme GT 8 Pro will include a detachable camera module that users can change or reposition based on their preferences. Three design options will be offered:

  • A round module,
  • A square module,
  • And a futuristic asymmetrical “robotic” model.

An ultra-bright screen from BOE

On the display front, Realme is going big: the Realme GT 8 Pro will feature a 2K AMOLED display at 144 Hz, co-developed with BOE and utilizing Q10+ technology. The brand promises an impressive peak brightness of 4,000 nits, along with optimized management of visual fatigue.

Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 will power the smartphone, supported by the Realme R1 display chip, designed to enhance gaming fluidity and visual rendering.

In terms of battery life, the Realme GT 8 Pro will come equipped with a battery exceeding 7,000 mAh that supports 120 W fast charging. It will also feature stereo speakers, a linear X-axis motor, and a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.

Mark your calendars for October 14 for more details

Realme will unveil the full details of its partnership with Ricoh during an event scheduled for October 14. Mobile photography enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating whether this collaboration will stand up to the prestigious partnerships already established in the industry.
