Firefox launches multiple profiles: no more mixing work/personal, welcome to compartmentalized browsing

Firefox Introduces Profiles: A New Way to Organize Your Online Browsing

Mozilla has recently announced a significant update to its browser Firefox, allowing users to create and manage multiple customizable profiles.

The rollout will begin on October 14, 2025, and this new feature aims to enhance navigation organization while reinforcing the separation of online activities.

Firefox: Distinct Spaces for Different Uses

Until now, Firefox already offered the Multi-Account Containers extension, which allowed users to isolate cookies, history, and logins in dedicated tabs to protect privacy.

With this new functionality, Mozilla takes a step further: profiles now provide complete browsing spaces, each equipped with its own bookmarks, history, extensions, and themes. This means you can create one profile for work, another for personal projects, and yet another for hobbies — all without mixing your activities.

Each profile operates independently, ensuring that no data is shared between them. Mozilla also notes that these spaces can be personalized with unique avatars, colors, and themes for easy identification at a glance.

More Clarity, More Privacy

The experience is similar to using multiple profiles in Google Chrome, but with a significant difference:

  • No need to create multiple Google accounts, and
  • enhanced privacy protections.

Mozilla explains, “Profiles in Firefox are not just for organizing your tabs. They allow you to set boundaries, protect your information, and make the Internet a bit calmer. By keeping your different online roles well separated, you reduce mental load and avoid awkward moments — like seeing your weekend plans pop up during a work presentation.

A Feature Designed for Modern Digital Life

In a context where users constantly juggle professional, personal, and creative lives, this new approach meets the growing need for compartmentalizing digital usage.

Firefox aims to provide a more organized and less intrusive environment — a philosophy true to the open-source spirit and privacy-focused ethos that defines Mozilla.

Deployment and Availability

The launch of Firefox profiles will start on October 14, 2025, through a gradual update of the browser on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Users will be able to manage their profiles directly from a new integrated management menu, without needing extensions.

This development positions Firefox in direct competition with Chrome and Edge in the realm of personalized productivity while maintaining its long-standing advantage in privacy.
