It’s the end for Windows 10, and gamers aren’t missing it. Windows 11 has reached a new market share record on Steam in September 2025. This comes as its predecessor ends support this October 2025. As usual, Valve has shared the results of its Hardware and Software Survey.
This transition is underway for gamers, as the phasing out of Windows 10 has sparked outrage from a coalition demanding updates from Microsoft until 2030. The September data reveals that 63.04% of Windows users participating in the survey are running Windows 11, which now features version 25H2. This marks a 2.65 point increase in just one month. On the other hand, Windows 10 has dropped by 2.9 points to 32.18%.
Windows 11 is more popular than Windows 10 in terms of popularity

It’s worth noting that Steam will discontinue Windows 10 32-bit support, a clear sign of the ongoing transition. However, Valve has no immediate plans to end support for this operating system. Following that, Windows 2022 64-bit holds the third spot with 0.09%, although this term remains somewhat ambiguous. Meanwhile, Windows 7 has made a surprising resurgence, ending up last with 0.07% of Steam users.
Windows continues to dominate the Steam platform, with 95.4% of players using this operating system, despite a loss of 0.19 points. Linux has seen a slight increase to 2.68%, up by 0.04 points. In contrast, Apple’s MacOS has gained 0.14 points, reaching 1.91%. It is essential to note that participation in the survey is optional and may not represent all Steam users.
Concerning hardware, the portable version of Nvidia’s RTX 4060 has taken the lead among popular graphics cards with 4.63% market share, a 0.2 point rise. Following it is the desktop RTX 3060 with 4.25%, which saw a decrease of 0.37 points. The RTX 3050 holds the third position with 2.94%, demonstrating a modest increase of 0.03 points. Unsurprisingly, Nvidia dominates the market with 74.12% of graphics cards on Steam, while AMD trails behind at 17.80%, and Intel stands at 7.71%.
Regarding processors, the distribution is a bit more balanced, with Intel and AMD at 57.68% and 42.32%, respectively. Additionally, 41.76% of players have 16 GB of RAM, 28.78% are equipped with a 6-core processor, and 33.66% utilize 8 GB of video memory. Standard displays primarily consist of 1080p screens.
