Motorola Edge 70: an ultra-thin smartphone under 6 mm with a 50 MP sensor and premium design

Motorola Edge 70: a sleek smartphone under 6 mm with a 50 MP sensor and premium design

The competition for ultra-thin smartphones is heating up once again, and Motorola aims to take a significant role. According to a leak shared by renowned leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks), the upcoming Motorola Edge 70 could become one of the thinnest phones on the market, measuring less than 6 mm in thickness.

This design positions it directly against the iPhone Air (5.6 mm) and the Galaxy S25 Edge (5.8 mm).

Motorola Edge 70: A leaked promo video reveals design and colors

In a 30-second promotional video, the Motorola Edge 70 is showcased from various angles, highlighting its extremely slim profile. Despite this thinness, Motorola aims to demonstrate that sleekness does not equate to simplicity.

The smartphone will be available in three exclusive Pantone colors: Bronze Green, Gadget Gray, and Lily Pad, each featuring a shiny metallic finish that enhances the premium feel of the device.

In terms of photography, the rear module features a dual-camera setup:

  • Main sensor with 50 megapixels, featuring 2.0 µm pixels and optical image stabilization (OIS),
  • Ultra-wide lens offering a 120° field of view.

Around the LED flash, inscriptions confirm these specifications. The camera block reveals three cutouts, but there is no sign of a telephoto lens, unlike the previous Edge 50 and Edge 60 models. This choice mirrors Apple and Samsung’s strategies for their thinnest models, prioritizing design over optical versatility.

A global launch under the name Moto X70 Air

The Motorola Edge 70 is reportedly the international version of the Moto X70 Air, expected to launch in China later this month. According to the video, the smartphone will also feature:

  • A flat, borderless display with very thin bezels,
  • A dedicated AI button, indicating that Motorola aims to align with the trend of smart smartphones,
  • An optimized design to combine thinness and ergonomics.

A bet on ultra-thinness, but with some compromises

With the Edge 70, Motorola seeks to appeal to users looking for a refined and minimalist design. Its profile measuring less than 6 mm, its premium colors, and its 50-megapixel main sensor with OIS make it an attractive smartphone in the ultra-thin segment.

However, the lack of a telephoto lens may disappoint some photography enthusiasts, especially given the advancements of previous generations. Motorola appears to follow the same strategic choice as Samsung and Apple: prioritize slimness and lightness, even at the expense of certain advanced features.

The Motorola Edge 70 could emerge as one of the most stylish smartphones on the market, but it remains to be seen whether this compromise will resonate with users internationally.
