Windows 11 25H2: The next annual update is ready to be deployed

Windows 11 25H2: The upcoming annual update is ready to be deployed

Microsoft is putting the finishing touches on the new annual update for Windows 11. Named 25H2, it has just reached the RTM stage (Release to Manufacturers), indicating that it is finalized and being distributed to PC manufacturers.

Its rollout to the general public is imminent, likely within the next week or two.

Initial estimates suggested a release at the end of September or early October. This timeframe appears to be confirmed, especially since Microsoft aims to complete this deployment before the official end of support for Windows 10, scheduled for mid-October 2025.

Windows 11 25H2: A Minor Yet Symbolic Update

In contrast to the major overhauls of previous versions, Windows 11 25H2 does not introduce many visible new features. It is, in fact, a minor patch that activates functionalities already present in 24H2.

The most anticipated change is the new Start menu:

  • a sleek design on a single pane,
  • the option to remove the “Recommended” section,
  • fewer distractions and promotional content.

However, it is important to note that Microsoft has confirmed that this new menu will also be available on Windows 11 24H2 via a gradual rollout. This means that some users will remain on 24H2 but will still gain access to this new feature before those who upgrade to 25H2.

What Changes with 25H2?

While the official list of exclusive additions is not yet known, this update should still:

  • extend support by an additional year,
  • bring some background optimizations,
  • improve overall stability.

On the performance front, early tests have not shown significant gains, but the final version could still unveil small surprises regarding interface smoothness.

In summary, Windows 11 25H2 will primarily serve as a continuity update. It strengthens the system’s foundation and extends support but does not bring radical changes. For users already on 24H2, there is no rush to upgrade, as major features like the new Start menu will also be available on their version.
