Notion 3.0: A first AI agent capable of automating your workflows
During its Make with Notion event, the productivity platform unveiled a significant upgrade to its offerings: Notion Agent, an autonomous AI designed to act as a true teammate within your pages and databases.
Available as part of Notion 3.0, this agent heralds a new era where Notion evolves beyond a mere note-taking and project management tool.
Notion 3.0: An Assistant That Acts on Your Behalf
Until now, Notion AI was limited to content search and summarization. With this new agent, the AI takes a leap forward. It can now:
- Automatically create or update pages and databases.
- Gather information from external sources such as Slack, Google Drive, your emails, and even the Internet.
- Execute complex multi-step tasks for up to 20 minutes across hundreds of pages.
For instance, you can ask the agent to generate a competitive analysis report, transform meeting notes into proposals, or consolidate user feedback into a single dashboard.
An Agent That Learns Your Preferences
Each user can set up a profile that guides the agent:
- Which sources to cite,
- What writing style to adopt,
- Where to store the results.
Moreover, the agent can remember your work habits. These “memories” are stored in your profile and can be modified or deleted at any time. Ultimately, Notion promises even more customizable agents capable of working based on triggers or schedules.
Concrete Use Cases
During demonstrations, Notion showcased the agent performing tasks such as:
- Providing feedback on a landing page and then updating it,
- Creating a tracker for restaurants or movies using external sources,
- Transforming meeting notes into emails or structured proposals,
- Building a bug tracking table by aggregating Slack, Drive, and emails.
A library of agent templates will be available soon to facilitate the creation of automations from scratch.
A Key Step in Notion’s Strategy
In two years, Notion has launched a calendar, a Gmail client, a meeting notes taker, and a company-wide search feature. All of these components set the stage for this intelligent automation. With Notion Agent, the platform enters the competition alongside players like Salesforce, Fireflies, and Read AI, which also offer specialized agents.
However, Notion takes a different approach: simplicity and personalization, transforming the workspace into an autonomous assistant for each user.
