Galaxy Z TriFold Unveils Soon: The XXL Screen Set To Revolutionize The Foldable Format
After years of speculation, Samsung is finally ready to reveal its first tri-fold phone, the Galaxy Z TriFold — a device that unfolds into three segments to provide a screen size similar to that of an XXL tablet.
According to Korean sources, the South Korean giant will discreetly showcase its triple-fold device at the APEC summit happening from October 31 to November 1 in South Korea. The smartphone is expected to make its public debut at this event.
An official launch could follow as early as November, with limited commercial availability initially in South Korea. Samsung is reportedly aiming for a reduced initial production of only 50,000 units, significantly less than its usual volumes for the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series.
Galaxy Z TriFold: The Battle of Tri-Folds Begins
So far, only Huawei has released a tri-fold model (the Mate XTs), but Samsung’s entry is shifting the landscape: this category is evolving from a technological curiosity to a new competitive arena among major manufacturers. Other companies may quickly follow suit.
As for pricing, it’s not likely to be budget-friendly: rumors suggest a price tag of around $3,000, making it even more expensive than the Mate XTs (priced at $2,500). At this stage, the tri-fold will still be a niche product, targeted at affluent enthusiasts.
Leaks indicate a design similar to Huawei’s: a large interior screen resembling a tablet, achieved through two successive hinges. The challenge for Samsung will be to:
- Minimize thickness when folded,
- Enhance hinge durability,
- Optimize the software experience to fully utilize three screen segments.
What About The Global Market?
Samsung hasn’t confirmed a release date or pricing outside of South Korea, but the Galaxy Z TriFold stands a good chance of eventually reaching Europe and the U.S. The key questions remain when it will launch… and at what price.
With this tri-fold, Samsung could mark its most significant innovation since the original Galaxy Fold in 2019. However, with an entry price of $3,000, will it remain a prestigious item or pave the way for a new era in foldable smartphones?
