Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5: Does the Honor Magic 8 outperform the Xiaomi 17 Pro by more than 400,000 AnTuTu points

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5: Is the Honor Magic 8 Outperforming the Xiaomi 17 Pro by Over 400,000 AnTuTu Points?

The recently launched Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is already making waves in the performance arena. While Xiaomi was the first manufacturer to integrate Qualcomm’s 3nm chip in its 17 series, Honor is making a bold comeback with its upcoming flagship: the Magic 8.

AnTuTu: Honor Takes the Lead with Over 4.1 Million Points

In a Weibo post, Li Kun, Honor’s product head, revealed that the AnTuTu V11 score for the Magic 8 is 4,166,339 points. In comparison, the Xiaomi 17 Pro reaches 3,749,435 points, showing a notable gap of about 11%.

The benchmark details indicate superior performance for Honor across all areas:

  • CPU: 1,213,845 vs 1,053,385
  • GPU: 1,468,351 vs 1,332,311
  • Memory: 570,553 vs 529,807
  • User Experience (UX): 913,590 vs 833,932

Battery Life & Temperatures: Xiaomi More Efficient, but Heats Up More

Raw performance isn’t everything, and some metrics show that Xiaomi remains competitive:

  • During testing, the Magic 8 lost 7% of battery, compared to just 2% for the Xiaomi 17 Pro.
  • In terms of temperature, the Magic 8 increased by +13 °C, while the Xiaomi 17 Pro rose by +20 °C.

It’s worth noting that Xiaomi was tested with over 90% battery, which slightly skews the perception of battery drain, as the brand’s smartphones tend to decrease more slowly at higher battery levels.

Camera, Design, Features: Beyond the Numbers

Both smartphones offer more than just performance:

  • The Xiaomi 17 Pro features cameras developed in collaboration with Leica, as well as a unique 2.7-inch rear display.
  • The Honor Magic 8 Pro, on the other hand, teases an impressive 200-megapixel telephoto sensor, with sample photos already circulating online.

The Honor Magic 8 series will be officially launched in October, with a clear goal of surpassing Xiaomi in terms of power and optimization. While Xiaomi was the first to release a smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Honor aims to demonstrate it can make better use of the technology.

Honor Steals the Spotlight from Xiaomi… for Now

In this race for the ultimate Android flagship, Honor takes an early lead on paper, showcasing solid performance alongside reasonable energy consumption.

It remains to be seen whether the user experience will live up to expectations beyond the benchmarks and if Xiaomi will respond with updates or an even more advanced Ultra version.
