Redwood City, CA – CloudOpt™, experts in WAN optimization for the cloud, today announced that Speed-as-a-Service™, the innovative service that delivers the most cost effective and easy to use data acceleration solution for the cloud, has expanded availability to Amazon Web Services (AWS) South America East Region serving South and Central America. Already available in Amazon’s US East, US West, European Union, Asia Pacific Sydney, Singapore, and Tokyo Regions, CloudOpt has expanded to the South America Region in response to growing market demand. According to analysts Brazil’s cloud computing market is expected to grow to over US$1 billion by 2017. With the availability of Speed-as-a-Service, CloudOpt empowers AWS customers by dramatically accelerating the movement of data to or from the AWS cloud. Speed-as-a-Service has helped customers reduce data transfer times and costs by up to 90%.

In South America cloud-based applications can be challenging to deploy as data must often be transmitted over long distances and over slow transmission lines resulting in high latency and poor application performance. Additionally the cost for international bandwidth in South America is over four times the cost in the United States. With the availability of CloudOpt’s Speed-as-a-Service in AWS’ Sao Paolo Region companies can easily overcome these barriers to moving applications to the cloud.

Accelerating large transfers of data into and out of the cloud, Speed-as-a-Service is an ideal solution for:

  • Reducing bandwidth charges
  • Full daily backups to the cloud
  • Rapid restoration of cloud backup data
  • Near real time replication of databases across regions
  • Maintaining response times when moving applications to AWS.

Delivered as a service, costly and complex hardware or software appliances are no longer necessary. Deployable in minutes, Speed-as-Service enables AWS users to significantly enhance cloud application access and data movement. By reducing the amount of data transferred, bandwidth charges are significantly reduced. Gigabytes of data can now be moved to/from the Amazon cloud at a fraction of the cost and time that users are experiencing today.

Requiring no networking expertise, Speed-as-a-Service is accessed using an easy to install Windows or Linux client. The CloudOpt client intercepts data destined for addresses in Amazon S3 or EC2; establishes a secure and encrypted connection to the Speed-as-a-Service network in the requested region; applies compression, deduplication, and protocol optimizations; and then delivers the data to its original destination within Amazon S3 or EC2. Speed-as-a-Service remembers what data has been sent and does not resend data in subsequent transfers, which can result in over 90% improvement in transfer times.

“As South American companies move backup and other applications to the cloud, Speed-as-a-Service can significantly reduce data transfer costs and dramatically improve performance,” said Dave Burow, CEO of CloudOpt.
