Los Angeles, California – Internet Service Provider and data center company InfoRelay announced the completion of several upgrades to its private dark fiber networks in its two leading regional markets of Los Angeles, California and Reston, Virginia. InfoRelay’s dark fiber networks utilize Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology, which allows data center customers to connect server and network gear directly to network providers at other regional data center locations on fully-private, physical fiber lines using 100 Megabit, 1 Gigabit, 10 Gigabit 40 Gigabit and 100 Gigabit connections. This series of improvements is part of a larger infrastructure project InfoRelay began in August of 2013, that will run throughout 2014.

The Northern Virginia-based IT company serves small/medium business, enterprise and government customers worldwide with colocation hosting, Internet bandwidth and technical support. InfoRelay has 15 nationwide data centers in top markets such as Los Angeles, San Jose/Silicon Valley, New York, Miami and Chicago. The recent DWDM upgrades were deployed on InfoRelay’s Los Angeles and Northern Virginia dark fiber rings (networks).

The recent capacity increases on InfoRelay’s dark fiber networks in Los Angeles and Northern Virginia allow customers to send and receive data from other network providers on fully-private fiber connections. Customers that require connectivity to Internet service providers (ISP) that are not present in that customer’s primary data center can access those ISPs in other regional data centers over the dark fiber provided by InfoRelay.

The dark fiber network improvements include ten new 10 Gigabit Ethernet waves on the Los Angeles, California network, as well as several more 10 Gigabit Ethernet Waves on the Northern Virginia network. Joseph Vajda, Director of Network Operations at InfoRelay explains, “After deploying four 10 GigE waves between the LAX1 and LAX3 data centers, we tested them and found zero loss. With this success, we proceeded to turn up six more 10 GigE waves between our LAX2 and LAX3 data centers. Following those, we rolled out a similar setup in our Northern Virginia data center network. We are very satisfied with the success of this project as well as the company-wide infrastructure improvement project as a whole, as our last capacity increase was quickly utilized by customers.” The new connectivity options are available to new and current customers as of May 12, 2014.
